Prince Harry Challenges The Refusal Of Security During UK Visits In High Court

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have become the ousted members of the royal family after the constant attacks on the family. Harry and Meghan decided to relinquish their royal duties in 2020 due to heavy scrutiny and the ill-treatment they received at the hands of the royal family. After the couple stepped back from their royal duties, they lost privileges exclusively reserved for the working royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shifted their bases from the UK to the US in 2020. After the move, Harry and Meghan lost privileges like the money they received from the sovereign grant, the ability to move around the globe representing the monarchy, and most importantly, the state security they received. In 2023, Harry lost the bid to get security from the state during the UK visits, and now he has challenged the decision in the High Court.

In May 2023, Prince Harry contested the decision of the UK government to strip the security of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as they are no longer working royals.

After they left the royal family, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) and the family decided that the couple would no longer be provided with special police security in the UK.

Now, Prince Harry has challenged the decision in the British High Court. He sought permission to pay for police security when he visited the UK, however, he lost the bid and now challenged the decision again.

Harry’s lawyers argued that RAVEC “should have considered the ‘impact’ that a successful attack on [Harry] would have, bearing in mind his status, background, and profile within The Royal Family—which he was born into and which he will have for the rest of his life—and his ongoing charity work and service to the public.”

On December 5, 2023, Prince Harry’s lawyers submitted arguments to the court, asking the committee to have also “considered, in particular, the impact on the UK’s reputation of a successful attack on [Harry].”

The royal family is currently under a lot of distress after Omid Scobie’s book release titled ‘Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival’. In some of the copies of the book, the author name-dropped Kate Middleton and King Charles III, revealing them to be the ones concerned about Archie’s skin color. Piers Morgan also revealed the names on his show.

Due to the racism row, the parliamentarians are demanding that the government should introduce a bill “to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their royal titles.” Bob Seely, a member of the Conservative Party, proposed the idea to take away the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they “trash an institution that plays an important part in our nation’s life.”

Bob continued, “In the next couple of weeks, I shall present a Bill in Parliament to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their royal titles.” Mr. Seely wants Parliament and the Privy Council to “consider a nuclear option.”
