The Blackamoor artwork consists of sculptures and jewelry that were famous during the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, the Blackamoors adorned the furniture and bridges in Sweden. It was also famous in Italy. Today the word itself is considered very offensive. Now the term ‘black moor’ or ‘blackamoor’ is a term used by the British for Black people. However, this kind of fashion became unpopular with time.
These artworks depict Black people as slaves and servants but are shown wearing ornate clothes and jewelry. This style of ornament has deep roots in colonialism and racism. These are reminders of the days of the Empire and its rule of the colonies around the world.
As the incident caused controversy at that time, Princess Michael apologized. A statement was also issued on behalf of the princess. “The brooch was a gift and has been worn many times before. Princess Michael is very sorry and distressed that it has caused offense,” the statement read.

In the recent episode of the docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’, the couple talked about the Blackamoor brooch incident. “In this family, sometimes you are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
