The latest High Court defeat of Prince Harry has reportedly left him facing legal fees that could reach around $20 million. The massive financial blow has already sparked headlines, but it now appears the fallout may have extended beyond the courtroom.
According to a new report, Harry turned to longtime friend Elton John for financial help after the loss. However, the request allegedly did not go over well, with the music icon reportedly reacting in a way that has raised fresh questions about where their friendship now stands.

Prince Harry recently lost his High Court privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. As previously reported, the defeat could leave the Duke of Sussex responsible for legal costs estimated at around $20 million.

According to journalist Paula Froelich, the financial burden led Harry to ask Elton John to help cover some of the expenses. The singer, however, was said to have rejected the request.
Froelich reported on her Substack that John was unhappy that Harry approached him for money. “I am not an ATM,” a source told Froelich on the singer’s behalf. The source added that he is “furious” at the Spare author for even asking him in the first place.
Elton John Was Also Part of the Same Privacy Lawsuit

This is reportedly notable because Elton John was also one of the public figures involved in the legal battle against Associated Newspapers Limited.

Harry was among seven celebrities who alleged that the publications obtained information about them through unlawful methods. It included phone hacking between the late 1990s and 2011. The group also included Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley and Jude Law’s former wife, Sadie Frost.
A source claimed John was one of the few people connected to the case who could realistically afford such a large expense. “Elton is really the only one out of that entire group who can afford to pay that bill. He’s a little tapped out right now,” the insider added.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been living in Montecito, Calif., since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Over the past few years, Harry has remained committed to pursuing several legal cases involving the British press.
Neither Prince Harry nor Elton John has publicly commented on the latest report. Still, the claims have added another layer of attention to Harry’s costly legal defeat.
