Disney has, for the first time, come up with a movie with a ‘plus-size’ protagonist. This very new movie that is named ‘Reflect‘ is brought to us by the director Hillary Bradfield, who was the animation artist behind the Disney movies ‘Frozen 2‘ and ‘Encanto‘.
Short Circuit is a series of experimental short films by ‘Mouse House‘ that focuses on topics of self-esteem and body positivity. ‘Reflect‘ is a part of Short Circuit’s second series. The movie follows the story of a young girl Bianca, a ballet dancer, who battles with her body image and tries to cope with body dysmorphia and negativities.

What Is Disney Movie ‘Reflect’ About?
The protagonist of the movie is a young girl named Bianca who is a ballet dancer. In the movie, she battles with her body image, and her own reflection, however, she fights through it by channeling her inner strengths, grace, and power. In a clip of the movie, we can see Bianca struggling as her ballet teacher reminds her “Tight tummy! Long neck!” Hearing this, her image in the mirror shatters which shows us the broken way in which she views herself, as a girl living with body dysmorphia.
This has been received widely by fans and critics all over the world. As mentioned in Yahoo movies, one viewer wrote “THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Disney+ FINALLY made a short with a Plus Size Lead! Its called Reflect and its part of the Short Circuit short series. Let’s just say I was SOBBING.”

Fan Reactions To Disney’s First Plus-Size Protagonist
The release of the first plus-size movie announcement has a very divided reaction from fans on Twitter. Some are coming up as ardent fans of the movie, saying that it was high time that media companies depicted a cross-section of society in a correct way. Whereas, some critics have also come up accusing Disney of “glorifying obesity”.
One Twitter user came up saying that this kind of movie sends an important message to young adults who may be struggling with their self-body image and having a hard time accepting themselves.
Another Twitter reaction read, “16 year old me needed this Disney short before I quit ballet because I didn’t want to be the fat girl in class anymore.” However, there were also reactions to the movie being slammed. “You wouldn’t represent anorexia, Disney, don’t represent Obesity either. It’s wrong,” read one such comment.
