Halloween is months away yet TikTok is not shy to show a new trend for this year’s spooky season. However, this is not the first time, the social media platform has used ghosts as a way to celebrate the Halloween season.
Just a few years back, social media users dressed up as ghosts paired with sunglasses for a photoshoot trend, and now, TikTokers are thrifting old paintings and adding their own Halloween kick to them.
Basically, the trend asks the users to get any old paintings and add their own Halloween twist to them. Including numerous tiny ghosts all over the painting, a few with sunglasses or eating popcorn. The goal is to make a cute piece of art to hang at home for the upcoming Halloween season.

How Did The Thrifted Ghost Painting Trend Begin?
On June 19, 2023, a TikTok user @whichwitchvillage posted a video documenting a ghost painting party. In the video, a few people are seen sitting around a table and painting ghosts over damaged thrift store paintings. Surprisingly the video gained over 1.1 million views in a month.
Soon the trend became quickly popular throughout July 2023. On 9th July another Tiktok user @its_canyonsage posted a video doing the same trend which gained over 850,000 views in just two weeks. Later on July 11 @caskl a TikTok user gained over 530,000 views in 10 days.
