“A Parody Gone Wrong”: Trailer Of ‘The Office’s Australian Remake Sparks Debate

In an attempt to re-create television history, creators are perhaps headed for doom with the release of the new trailer of the Australian remake of The Office. Prime Videos released the trailer on September 17, revealing the new cast and a glimpse into the plot of the Australian company. The series will embark on yet another journey of a dysfunctional office with atypical workers.

The new production could probably be another success like the American version which was in turn based on the British television series. It has become a household staple with its witty comedy. However, the Australian remake is seemingly having a rough start.

Prime Videos is set to bring another eccentric boss leading more bizarre staff in this Australian remake of ‘The Office’. The trailer released shows the comedian Felicity Ward taking on the boss’s torch. She welcomes the workers and viewers back to the office “full-time”.

The office cast comprises of Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Jonny Brugh, Josh Thompson, and Raj Labade. The trailer reveals the release date of the show as October 18, 2024.

Viewers can expect similar peculiarities from the Australian remake as the British and American versions. However, Ward’s character, Hannah Howard does not seem as light-tempered as Michael Scott and David Brent. She seems more of a chipper girl boss trying to keep the office morale high with hilarious attempts. The new office is a packing company named, Flinley Craddick in Australia.

The Australian Office of Flinley Craddick has come under scathing reviews from viewers even before it premiered. The trailer of ‘The Office’ disappointed many viewers who believe the series is a cheap remake of the American classic.

Tony Jose Matos commented on X, “A female Michael Scott and plucky ensemble cast? Yeah…they already did this. It’s called Park’s and Rec. Grow up, get good, and make new content. (If you can*) *they can not.”

Another comment on X, from Odin read a harsh statement, “Did they scout for the most unattractive Australians or something?” Megan Bess also voiced her dislike, “This looks like a bad fan made parody wtf lol”.

‘The Office’ will appear on the American screens later than the specified date. It remains to be seen whether it hits the spot or misses it.
