The Hulu and Disney+  series, ‘The Bear‘, revolves around the character of chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, played by Jeremy Allen White. Carmy takes over his family’s sandwich shop. ‘The Original Beef of Chicagoland’ along with sous-chef Sydney, played by Ayo Edebiri, and his cousin Richie. The trio then makes it their aim to bring about a transformation in the world of fine dining. The motivation for this idea stems from the death of Carmy’s brother.

Though the story’s main narrative has its initial focus on Carmy’s character, it eventually partially shifts to Richie, portrayed by Moss-Bacharach. At one point, his character becomes crucial and takes the central stage in their joint quest for culinary excellence.

As the trio navigates their journey towards a planned goal, Richie and Carmi refer to each other as cousins. For a considerable number of episodes, the showmakers have not delved into the details of the relationship that Carmy and Richie share. It is for the audience to just presume that they are cousins from what they refer to each other as.

It is revealed much later in the show that though the two call each other cousins, there is no blood relation between Carmy and Richie. In a rather poignant moment during the first season, Sydney questions Richie about his familial connection with Carmy, and he clarifies that they are not related by blood.

The dynamic between Carmy and Richie transcends mere familial ties. Their relationship is based on the common love that they share for Carmy’s elder brother Mikey played by Jon Bernthal. Richie was the close friend of Mikey who dies by suicide on the show. While the two may not share a genetic bond, Carmy and Richie consider each other family. The depth of their connection indeed goes beyond mere blood relations from what we can see on the show.

Season two of ‘The Bear’ welcomes several A-list additions to the cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Will Poulter, and Olivia Colman. Poulter, who plays pastry chef Luca, once said in an interview that he “literally begged” the producers for the opportunity to be a part of the show.

He was kind enough to gift me with the offer to play Luca, and it really changed my life, to be honest,” the actor had told Variety at the time. The third season of the show is highly anticipated as the fans of ‘The Bear‘ are growing by the day.
