With an impressive cast including actors like Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Manish Dayal, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and Jane Leeves, the show aired its sixth season in January 2023. So, is a seventh season in the pipeline?

Will ‘The Resident’ Be Renewed For Season 7?
Co-creator of the show, Amy Holden Jones, previously confirmed to TVLine that Season 6 was made bearing in mind that the season finale could mark the end of the show. Though there were still some hopes about the show returning with season 7, there weren’t many things that the audience may have looked forward to. The show lovers, however, had their eyes on Devon and Leela’s wedding, while some were also hoping to see some twists and turns in the romantic relationship between Conrad and Billie.
However, the show was canceled after six seasons, as confirmed in April 2023 by the makers of the show. Though the news came as a disappointing development for many, the show makers said it was because of the decline in its viewership that the show was canceled.
Fox Network, citing a gradual decline in the ratings of the show, canceled ‘The Resident’. The last season of the show reportedly saw a 27% decrease in the number of demo viewers as compared to the previous season. Besides, there was a 12% drop in the statistics of multiplatform viewers. The show also witnessed a decline of 35% from season one and a 12% decline from season five.

‘The Resident’ Creators And Audience React To Show Coming To An End
After the show was declared to have ended, Amy Holden Jones took to social media to share her feelings about the show. “It was a great run. #TheResident lives on @hulu where you can watch commercial-free. Today is a day of gratitude for our amazing cast and crew and the life-altering experience we shared,” she said in a tweet.

She said to TVLine that making ‘The Resident’ is the hardest work she has done so far. “But it’s also a personal joy and privilege. This cast is the happiest and most unified I’ve seen in all my time in the business. The incredible crew loves coming to work. I will always be proud of all we’ve done and how we’ve done it. If it ends, there will be sorrow, but we rang the bell,” she added.
The audience, too, expressed disappointment about the show having ended like this. Many took to Twitter, saying that they were looking forward to getting more from the show. Many said that they would now be left wondering what happens to the show’s characters next.
