The superheroes are no more the epitome of strength, machismo, and power. Recently, the treatment of these characters has given the viewers a sigh of relief making the unbelievable powers believable with their humane characteristics. Marvel’s Moon Knight has the internet shower love due to the reality of Marc’s dissociative identity disorder. Similarly, the Master Chief of Halo on Paramount Plus is also struggling with the trauma of the past and coming to terms with who the maternal figure is. The latest episode “Solace” is an exemplary attempt of empathetic visual story-telling coupled with stellar performances and filling hopes in the viewers that like life, the series will get better!

In the last episode, the invasion of the client covenant and the emergence of repressed childhood trauma makes Master Chief AKA John conflicted and confused. The latest episode begins with the camera halted on John with his blood-drenched uniform and memories flashing from his past. In the memories, he gives a dreadful look to Halsey’s welcoming smirk. The room filled with people is silent, but the noises from the past are boisterous. Kai-125 is on an operation bed. She grabs his arm. The noise persists with the machines beeping. We are sucked into John’s head. He holds Kai’s hand, but back in his past.

The “Solace” title encapsulates the paradox where he oscillates between the traumatic past and the jarring reality. While Master Chief is at it to reach the abyss of the past mysteries to solve them. The deeper he dug, the more misery introduced itself. However, in the end, John may have found the “Solace.” The marriage of contradicting philosophies with the science fiction in Halo has given a fitting answer to the skeptical viewers and early criticism. The early episodes made the viewers feel ‘the all-over-the-place nature of the series, but with the progression of John’s story, the series might grip the audience to it.

Halo is currently streaming on Paramount+.
