As ‘The Boys’ nears its explosive conclusion, fans have been debating one big question for months: Will Homelander survive this story?
Now, a recent comment from showrunner Eric Kripke might have answered that question quietly, before anyone could have guessed.
Homelander’s Story Has Been Building Toward Disaster For Years

After stating that Homelander was dead, Kripke alluded to story ideas involving Marie Moreau and Starlight during an interview about the future of ‘Gen V’. The language was instantly eye-catching, as it was not as hypothetical as one would have hoped.

“Like when Annie says to uh Marie like, “What good’s all that power if you can’t control it?” And when Marie says, “Reports of my awesomeness have been greatly exaggerated,” Like those are all hints of what we were planning to do for our season 3,” he told Collider.
He wasn’t saying anything about ‘The Boys’ finale itself, but the comment has led to a lot of speculation. Just as it makes sense, and, in truth, it would make sense. Homelander has never been a typical supervillain, and his personality is more of a ticking time bomb than a traditional one.
He isn’t only a threat due to his abilities. He’s a man who is emotionally unstable, desperate for control, and more and more detached from reality. That instability has been further exacerbated in Season 5. As his paranoia, political maneuvering, and public temper have increased, the series has slowly peeled away all his restraints.
The character is pretty much too destructive to be left standing at the end. Kripke’s comments only fueled that belief. When talking about ‘Gen V’s future plans, he mentioned the younger heroes would go on “after Homelander’s dead,” which was a casual throwaway line that many fans saw as a spoiler. Of course, it is possible that he was talking about a hypothetical or loose situation. However, it’s difficult not to see it.
The Bigger Surprise May Be What Happens After ‘The Boys’ Ends

What was interesting, though, is that Kripke’s remarks also pointed to something else: The world of ‘The Boys’ doesn’t seem to be coming to an end with the main show. Despite the cancellation of ‘Gen V’ after its second season, Kripke said that characters from the show would keep making appearances in future projects.

That means Prime Video hasn’t lost interest in this bizarre superhero world yet, even after Billy Butcher and Homelander have finished their arcs. This might increase Homelander’s chances of dying. His shadow has loomed over all aspects of the franchise in many ways.
If he were eliminated from the board, then newer characters would finally be able to shape what this universe will look like after him. Still, if this really is the end for Homelander, it’s hard to imagine The Boys going quietly. The character’s unpredictability makes him one of the most terrifying villains in television history. If he dies in the end, it’s going to be messy, shocking, and likely horrific.
