The 2025 psychological thrillerThe Housemaid has propelled the genre of domestic thrillers back into mainstream culture. The amazing performances of Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, mixed with Freida McFadden’s writing, have the audience celebrating sisterhood.

But if you are still not over the movie and are looking for your next feminine-rage story, there’s a show you will obsess over. ‘Bad Sisters‘ has got to be the perfect pick, and here’s every reason why.

The Irish black comedy television series ‘Bad Sisters‘ is a revenge fantasy that is wonderfully cathartic, perfectly paced, and relentlessly witty. Based on the Belgian series ‘Clan‘, the show has two terrific seasons about five Garvey sisters – Eva, Grace, Ursula, Bibi, and Becka.

Set in Dublin, the series takes no time in throwing the biggest punch at the get-go. Grace’s abusive husband, John Paul, dies, and the sisters immediately get hauled into a life insurance investigation. The layered storytelling reveals how nothing is as it seems.

Bad Sisters‘ moves back and forth in time to reveal the true actions of the sisters who loathed the deceased, while a determined insurance agent is trying to prove foul play. The tight-knit sisters vow to look out for one another and are tested in their loyalty in unpredictable situations. After all, everyone has secrets, everyone makes bad decisions, but you stick by your tribe.

Sure, emotions run high, but so does the mystery. The banter adds moments of levity to an otherwise devastating story. For instance, at one point, a murderous plan is discussed, and the idea floated is: “You can’t just explode a man.” What exactly happens though, is way more unhinged.

Why Fans Of ‘The Housemaid’ Will Love ‘Bad Sisters’

A psychological thriller in a domestic setting is not the only common element ‘Bad Sisters’ shared with ‘The Housemaid’. The show is also sprinkled with razor-sharp wit and dark comedy.

If you loved Millie’s and Nina’s relationship, then you will love the Garvey sisters. The unshakeable sorority between them works harmoniously with the themes of domestic abuse, secrets, morally grey characters, and revenge motivation.

Pair this with Paul’s vile character, and the ‘Bad Sisters‘ becomes the perfect escapism. At one point in the series during Paul’s funeral, Eva says, “I’m just glad the suffering’s over.” When she is asked, “Oh, was he ill?” She just replies, “No.”

Once again, just like ‘The Housemaid‘, we see the mystery unfold through an outsider’s perspective. It keeps us on the edge of our seats, never knowing whose side we should be on. Moreover, the series is beautifully shot, and every scene increases the uneasiness.

If ‘The Housemaid‘ left you craving for more, ‘Bad Sisters’ should absolutely be on top of your watchlist. It remains one of the most underrated shows on Apple TV+.
