‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) holds great significance in the entertainment world, not just for its popularity but also for the time that it has managed to survive and rule the talk shows. Lorne Michaels, who is the longtime executive producer of Saturday Night Live, had co-created the show in 1975. He has since been a key figure in its various capacities, including writer and producer, and a significant force behind ‘30 Rock’.
Now that he has grown old and would perhaps prefer to retire, the question of who will succeed him lingers and is much speculated. While the show’s crew and fans are running their minds to make the right choice of the person who would carry Micheals’ onus forward, the man himself has proposed a name.

“It Could Easily Be Tina Fey”: Lorne Micheals Vouches For ‘Mean Girls’ Star
Lorne Micheals recently said that Tina Fey, the writer and star of SNL’s parodied version ‘30 Rock’, is a potential frontrunner for the position. Speaking at an interview on the Emmys red carpet, Michaels asserted that Tina Fey is a strong candidate, though he also hinted at other qualified people within the current team of the show.
While praising Tina Fey, Michaels highlighted her many qualities as he described her as brilliant and excellent in every aspect. He also added a personal touch to his statement, adding that she holds great importance in his life.
“It could easily be Tina Fey, but you know, there are a lot of people who are there now who are also, you know…,” Micheals said while speaking on the Emmys red carpet, pointing that there could be other options to take the reins. “Tina’s brilliant and great at everything. She’s a very important person in my life,” he added.

Tina Fey Holds A Commendable Work History For SNL
Tina Fey joined SNL in 1997 as a writer, and quickly climbed the ladder to become the show’s head writer in 1999. In the process she also broke ground as the first woman to hold that title. Later as the show kept getting popular, she also served as a cast member and co-anchor of “Weekend Update.”
Though she left SNL in 2006 to create and star in ‘30 Rock’ — a show satirically portrayed the SNL office – Tina has remained closely connected with Michaels. Both have continued to work together as Micheals produced or executive produced several projects involving her. Some projects that they worked together on include movies like ‘Baby Mama’, ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’, and all three iterations of ‘Mean Girls’.
Given the dynamic the share, many have already put their bets on Tina Fey’s name as Micheals’ successor. Michaels, meanwhile, also clarified in the same interview that he plans to stay with SNL for at least another year.
“We’re doing the 50th anniversary show in February of ’25, so I will definitely be there for that, and definitely be there until that, and sometime before that we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do,” he confirmed.
While he has unofficially hinted at Tina Fey as his obvious choice, fans now await an official confirmation about whose hands the show would be in after the legendary executive producer who helped the show climb such great heights.
