‘Succession’ Season 4: Do Tom And Siobhan Break Up?

The family feud between the Roys shows no signs of simmering in ‘Succession.’ Been a while since Tuscany, hasn’t it? It seems like yesterday to Logan as he sits on top of the world. His children Kendall, Siobhan, and Roman don’t have fond memories of Italy as they were finagled out of their chances for succession.

The opening episode, ‘The Munsters‘, shows the Roy children, now outcasts, dying to fight daddy dearest to get their kicks. But they prove to be as lethal as well they are naughty. Logan gets outsmarted for once, and Tom and Shiv come to a conclusion about their sham of a marriage.

In the episode ‘The Munsters, all the political high rollers show up in their shiny suits and shiny show up for Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) birthday party. But Logan is uncomfortable at his party, maybe missing his idiot children a teensy weensy bit? Meanwhile, this newly-formed trifecta of Roy orphans talks about strategy and potential investment interest in their new-age media startup, The Hundred.

Substack-meets-Masterclass-meets-The Economist-meets-The-New Yorker” is how Kendall (Jeremy Strong) describes it. If it sounds like chaos, it’s only because it is. This is not great for Kendall, who’s not as good with chaos as he’d like to think. But all this becomes a second fiddle when they discover Logan’s plan to buy the PGM news network. A bidding war sparks to acquire the left-wing news network, which the siblings lock with a $10 billion offer.

While the boys are picking fights with their dad, Siobhan (Sarah Snook) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) are going through a separation. Things have changed since Tom told Siobhan he’s no longer in love with her. It’s a surprise why and how these two are together. This time Siobhan finally cuts the chord. After betraying the Roy siblings to Logan, he’s become one of his messengers. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place as part of his daily duties is to talk to her now ex-wife.

To make things work with PGM, he decides to cut ties with Tom to avoid a conflict of interests. But at the apartment, she runs into Tom. They finally have the grown-up conversation about walking away with dignity. Flat-out tired, they lay on the bed. Their bodies are close, but they couldn’t be farther away. It’s a bittersweet moment. Perhaps it’s the only real moment before the storm for supremacy ruins this family. Logan calls it a day by watching ATN, the only child he seems to care about.
