“That Is George’s Space To Tell That Story”: ‘House Of The Dragon’ Creator Says Daenerys Targaryen Might Not Be The Prince That Was Promised Despite Daemon’s Vision

After a fiery finale of House Of The Dragon‘ season 2, fans were left with one burning question — whether or not Daemon’s vision confirms that Daenerys is the Prince That Was Promised. And showrunner Ryan Condal might just have answered it.

Condal explained several aspects of the show’s season 2 finale plot during a recent interview through Zoom with reporters. Among them was also the question about Daenerys being the Promised Prince as was seemingly confirmed in Aegon’s vision. However, Condal clarified that just because she was in the vision does not necessarily mean she is the Prince.

An interesting part of the season 2 finale of ‘House Of The Dragon’ was Daemon’s vision. With the help of Alys Rivers’ magic, Daemon saw a vision into the future wherein he saw Daenerys Targaryen being born from the ashes with her three dragons. This lead to a lot of fans believing that she is the Prince That Was Promised as per the lore.

However, showrunner Ryan Condal says that she might not be what fans believe. “We are not trying to make any kind of specific interpretation of a prophecy that has yet to be revealed by its author,” Condal said.

And that is George’s world and George’s space to tell that story. I think we’re, we’re more interested in playing with the character drama that lives in and around that imagery,” he added, referring to author George R.R. Martin.

As a prequel show, ‘House Of The Dragon‘ inevitably has interconnectivity with Game Of Thrones’. Showrunner Ryan Condal explained the link between the two as he talked about the meaning behind Daemon’s vision and how it has to do with the rich tapestry of ‘Game of Thrones‘.

There’s a whole lot to unpack in there,” Condal said. “It’s all kind of related, which is this idea that House of the Dragon is a prequel story to this very famous story, one of the biggest if not the biggest television story of all time. There needs to be some interconnectivity,” Condal said, adding that the series is the story “of the Targaryen dynasty and its evolution.”

Condal continued, “In terms of this Shakespearean tragedy that we’re experiencing: The Dance of the Dragons, the dying of the dragons, as we know from Fire & Blood.”

“And we don’t know how exactly the events play out in this history, but we do know at the end of it, there are no dragons left in the world, until they’re reborn to Daenerys in the end. That is the interconnectivity,” he added.

While the anticipation for the next season was already heavy, Condal’s revelation has added yet another layer of intrigue to the upcoming season of the show.
