Netflix‘s decision to cancel ‘The Boroughs‘ after just one season has left both fans and cast members disappointed. The sci-fi mystery series had only recently debuted and was still attracting viewers when the streaming giant announced that it would not return for another season.

Now, star Denis O’Hare has openly reacted to the cancellation and shared a surprising idea for getting back at Netflix. While expressing his love for the show, the actor encouraged supporters to rally behind the series in a way that he believes could deliver a bit of “sweet revenge.”

Netflix canceled ‘The Boroughs‘ on June 17 after only one season. The eight-episode series debuted on May 21 and followed residents of a retirement community as they faced strange and mysterious events. The show was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, while Ross and Matt Duffer served as executive producers.

Shortly after the cancellation was announced, O’Hare addressed the news in an Instagram video. The actor, who played Dr. Wally Baker, admitted that he was still struggling to accept the decision. “So, it’s Saturday and I’m just thinking about the fact that Netflix canceled The Boroughs and how really bummed I am because it was such a great show,” O’Hare said.

He then explained why the cancellation surprised him. According to O’Hare, many viewers had personally told him how much they enjoyed the series. In fact, he said the show’s appeal reached far beyond its older characters.

It was such a great show and people really seem to love it. I’ve been astounded how many people have come up to me and talked about how much they like the show and not just like, you know, old people but I’m talking about anybody, people who are in their 30s or 40s with kids. Everyone seemed to find something to relate to.”

I think, we still have a couple of days before the end of Emmy voting, that everyone should just vote for The Boroughs,” he said. In addition, O’Hare urged voters to support his fellow cast members. He specifically mentioned several actors who he believed deserved recognition for their performances.

You can vote for me if you’d like. But also like Bill Pullman and Alfre Woodard and [Alfred] Molina and Geena Davis and Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg and vote for The Boroughs for Best Series and stick it to Netflix and let them know that they made a mistake, because I think that would be sweet revenge. Anyway, I love the show, I miss it.”

The cast featured several well-known names, including Bill Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg. Nevertheless, Netflix decided not to renew the show despite positive reactions from viewers. Meanwhile, Deadline was the first outlet to report the cancellation.

Although ‘The Boroughs‘ has come to an end after just one season, its cast members clearly believe the show still has much more to offer. For now, however, fans can only look back on the series and wonder what could have happened next.
