Discussions regarding the well-being and safety of child actors have reached a major crossroads, with a surprising advocate joining from the Wizarding World. Singer and actress Ariana Grande recently made her own observations regarding the revelations in the Nickelodeon ‘Quiet on Set‘ documentary, where she spoke about the need for mandatory on-set therapists for minor performers. Daniel Radcliffe, the 36-year-old former ‘Harry Potter‘ star, has now come out in support of this initiative.

The former Boy Who Lived has claimed that these conversations have led to changes in the planning for HBO‘s upcoming TV reboot of J.K. Rowling‘s franchise. Having reflected upon his years-long experiences being famous while young, Radcliffe admitted that child actors’ survival with a good psychological state of mind should not depend on luck.

Though Daniel Radcliffe has always been grateful for the support he received from his parents and his film crew while playing ‘Harry Potter,’ he understands that the modern entertainment world requires more than just luck.

Following Grande’s widely discussed remarks on the need for a mental health professional on hand to help children cope with the peculiarities of their jobs, Daniel Radcliffe addressed the issue in a Bustle podcast and shared his perspective.

“‘Well, you got it all. You’re an actor, you’re so young, you’ve got money, you’ve got this and that.’ And so you feel like you kind of don’t have a right to complain, and I think that atmosphere is so hard to get past that, actually, some sort of mandated therapy would probably be a really, really great thing. Totally.”

The viral statements made by Grande served as a trigger for Radcliffe to communicate with the creative team responsible for casting new students at Hogwarts.

HBO’s upcoming adaptation has a huge task: casting young actors who will be famous for 10 years of its run. Radcliffe confessed that he has been personally trying to ensure that the new production is safer than the industry standards at the beginning of the century.

Speaking of the suggestion of mandatory therapy in film and theater projects, Radcliffe confessed: “I’ve had some conversations with people working on the new Potter series… I think that’s something they are thinking about this time around, being a child actor… whether or not you make it out of that in a good frame of mind is so much luck”

In general, it seems Radcliffe takes great responsibility for the safety of the children who inherit his legacy. With Radcliffe advocating for implementing certain psychological protections in the production of the franchise, he seeks to replace the luck-based system with a better one.

When it comes to casting the next television series introducing new ‘Harry Potter‘ characters alongside the new Golden Trio, it could be a great way to revolutionize Hollywood.
