‘The Boys‘ finale was controversial, but it did conclude Homelander’s arc with his death. Antony Starr‘s iconic villain finally got his comeuppance after years of terrorizing heroes, civilians, and even his own allies.
It was a final statement that was harsh, heartless, and appropriate. However, with that finality, there are already questions about whether the franchise could ever bring Homelander back.
Homelander’s Story Could Continue Without Undoing ‘The Boys’ Finale

‘The Boys’ universe is growing with multiple spinoffs, and the temptation is certainly there. The problem is how to accomplish it without ruining one of the show’s most significant conclusions. And the solution might have been in the comics all along.

One of the most popular storylines in ‘The Boys’ comic was cut from the Prime Video adaptation. The source material had a major twist that showed Black Noir was Homelander’s clone, which altered the conclusion of the story. The idea was not used in this show, but it still exists.
A resurrected Homelander would be a messier way of getting him back than a clone. Homelander’s death was meant to be permanent. Bringing him back exactly as he was would risk weakening the emotional impact of the finale. But a clone opens up new possibilities. The concept takes on even more of a twist when one thinks of Stan Edgar’s comeback.
Edgar’s attitude toward superheroes was that of an asset, not a person, throughout the series. He would undoubtedly have missed his strongest creation, Vought, and would have wanted to replace it. Making a replacement for Homelander without his instability is the sort of cold, calculated thing Edgar would do.
Homelander’s Death Doesn’t Have To Be The End

A Homelander clone won’t only resurrect one of the franchise’s most interesting characters, but it will also reinvigorate the franchise itself. It might also be able to answer another mystery in the cosmos. It was a possibility that many fans had been hoping for.

Fans wanted to see ‘Gen V’ star Marie Moreau meeting Homelander in a big confrontation. Her blood-manipulation skills made her one of the few Supes that could take him on. This showdown did not come off as planned. That might actually be possible with a clone storyline.
It would be interesting to see how Marie would fare against a reimagined version of Homelander. So far, it’s just speculation. However, if the franchise ever feels it’s ready to move on from Homelander, an unused comic book idea could be the best blueprint for the franchise’s future.
