The maiden season of HBO’s much-loved horror series ‘The Last of Us‘ recently concluded. It had several amazing moments that made everyone’s jaw drop. One of them, taken directly from the video game, involved a giraffe.

According to Variety, production designer John Paino said that they found “a disused hospital outside the city of Calgary” for the hospital scene. She said that showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann “wanted to follow the game closely with Joel going through the places and passages.”

The team painted and “aged” the hospital to replicate the moment from the video game. Before the hospital scene, Joel and Ellie see a giraffe whom she feeds. For this tender moment, the crew got a real giraffe from the Calagary Zoo. It was mixed with some VFX work and scenery. They went with a real animal because of a lack of time for visual effects work.
