‘The Big Bang Theory’ is inarguably one of the greatest sitcoms of the modern time. It had a stellar cast of Jim Parson, Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helbarg, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch. Throughout 12 seasons, the show also had some of the most entertaining cameos.
Fans saw stars like Joe Manganiello, William Shatner, Late Jenna Fischer, James Earl Jones, etc. hanging out or interacting with these nerds. In addition to that, many big cameos almost happened however fans never got to on the ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

Macaulay Culkin, Sandra Bullock, Selena Gomez And Other A-Listers Nearly Starred In ‘The Big Bang Theory’
In ‘The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive’, creator Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and other producers spilled the beans on behind-the-scenes stories of the TV show. They revealed that they wanted Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin to star as Leonard Hofstadter. However, Culkin turned them down and the role eventually went to Johnny Galecki. Culkin was not interested in playing the role.
In addition to Macaulay Culkin, Marisa Tomei, whom today’s fans know as Aunt May from MCU’s ‘Spider-Man’ movies, was in contention to play the role of the odd one out of the group, Penny.
However, some stars were supposed to star in minor roles rather than the main lead. Fans know how much Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh Koothrappali loved Sandra Bullock. The creators decided to bring the ‘Bird Box’ star to be Raj’s date for the season finale, however, she turned it down.
They said, “Sandra Bullock was actually our first go-to because of Koothrappali’s long love of her. We were really excited about it, but we got a polite decline because she was shooting a movie and wasn’t available. But we were very excited Sarah was available to come on.”
The executive director Steve Molaro revealed in the ‘The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive‘ book that the team approached singer and actress Selena Gomez to play Jim Parson’s Sheldon Cooper‘s love interest. Gomez had revealed that she loves the sitcom. However, due to a scheduling issue, she had to pass it.

What Makes ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ Different?
‘The Big Bang Theory‘ received unprecedented love from the audience. The cast did a great job in making the audience believe they are actually super genius. The past sitcoms of that time, such as ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ and ‘How I Met Your Mother’ also revolved around a small group of friends who are like family to each other.
However, this time, the show had characters who were sort of first benchers and nerds who got bullied all their childhood. This show celebrates the nerd-hood and tells the story of what nerds go through. It truly connected with the specific section of the audience.
Unlike other shows, ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ has a stronger connection with “nerd” media. It led to a dozen of cameos from the stars who played roles in the sci-fi media. This includes William Shatner, Wil Wheaton from the Star Trek franchise, James Earl Jones, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher from the ‘Star Wars‘ universe, one of the iconic Batman Adam West, etc.
It also developed a sense of empathy for nerds. It was truly one of a kind TV show and there is a slim chance that there will be another show that will explore the nerd culture again.
