Which ‘South Park’ Episode Was Co-Written Using ChatGPT?

The ‘South Park’ creators keep things topical, be it Prince Harry and Meghan Markle or Andrew Tate. Despite the hue and cry, they aren’t afraid to go into the deep end of the pool. So the world wasn’t surprised when these soldiers of satire took on the greatest threat currently, ChatGPT. Said to make all writing obsolete, it made sense for the makers to tackle the subject.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker lampooned Chat GPT’s supposed artificial strength. But instead of making an episode about how soulless the software is, the creators proved their point by using ChatGPT to write half the episode of their ‘South Park’ episode ‘Deep Learning.’ This episode from season 26 falls in the bracket of intelligent and funny without poking the bear too much.

Fourth grader Stan Marsh has no clue how he can write meaningful responses to his girlfriend Wendy Testaburger’s texts. Clyde tells about ChatGPT to Stan in confidence, an AI app that helps him to write essential texts and documents. Soon, Stan’s responses get emotive much to Wendy’s joy. Soon, Stan, Clyde, Eric, and Butters begin to use ChatGPT to complete their homework assignments.

Eric becomes worried that more people will catch on to the app, taking away their advantage of anonymity. Mr. Garrison is perplexed by the improved quality of homework. His partner, Rick, informs him of how ChatGPT might have something to do with it. He starts using it to grade the homework, not realizing his students are pulling the same trick.

The school counselor, Mr. Mackey, informs all the children that one of them has been using the ChatGPT for their homework. Mr. Garrison and Stan admit to using it. However, Mr. Garrison is peeved to learn Rick has been using the AI app during their text exchange. The school goes under inspection to spot the cheater.

A technician dressed as a falconer with his falcon Shadowbone is invited to weed out the student using the AI writing tool. It turns out Wendy Testaburger’s been using the ChatGPT, although she denied using it all. Due to a lack of options, Stan turns up for help to ChatGPT. He asks it to rewrite the story where everything turns out fine. This is where the show’s creators use AI to write the ending.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s use of ChatGPT is no gimmick. As always, a line of reasoning lies at the end of their jokes. Sure, ChatGPT is brilliant innovation but, simultaneously, a dangerous one. Its ability to create well-written textual documents could render all writing jobs obsolete. ChatGPT’s ending for the show is accurate trope by trope. But it is dispassionate and lacks humanity, which an AI never does or will account for.
