Why Did Aemond Targaryen Lie About Killing Lucerys Velaryon In ‘House of The Dragon’ Season 2?

House Of The Dragon‘ season 2 just premiered their first episode A Son For A Son, which had the most dramatic ending of the complete series yet. The episode had so many events, which are going to set the table for further episodes in the series. The most unsettling event was Aemond killing Lucerys and Arrax.

The conflict between Aemond Targaryen and Lucerys has been going on for over a decade. But Aemond made a killing mistake of Lucerys when he attempted to flee his desire to fight, but the main plot twist comes when we get to know that Aemond didn’t intend to kill Velaryon.

Aemond has his reasons for killing Lucerys by mistake and does not accept the wrong on his part. Instead of accepting his mistake, he made his own fabricated story, that he killed Lucerys intentionally. Well, the answer to this is very simple; if Aemond accepted that he killed Lucerys by mistake, that would have made him look weak.

He already lost on dragon Vhagar which was the main cause of the killing and Aemond doesn’t like being perceived as weak. By making a fabricated story, Aemond is being delusional that he is powerful.

Moreover, telling the Greens that he intended to kill him, made him more threat to the Blacks in ‘Dance of the Dragons‘. Further, Otto and Alicent accepted him as too volatile after the killing and that’s what exactly Aemond wanted.

Aemond killing Lucerys sets the foundation for theHouse of the Dragon’s war, and Aemond wants to appear like a threat and he can do anything to prove that.

Aemond achieved what he wanted. He wanted to be regarded as powerful and a threat to the enemies. He has no fear of killing his family now, as he already killed Lucerys. Given that Blood and Cheese resulted in Jaehaerys’ death instead of his own which now gives him power and freedom to attack the Targaryen Black faction without consequences.

Moreover, He’s strategizing wars against the enemies to show his dominance. In the first episode of season 2, Aemond is trying to get involved in the small council meetings, and is planning for wars to guard the city of Vhagar.

After gaining strength, Targaryens would be his perfect target to show dominance. It would interesting to see what kind of things go in his mind and how he executes them. ‘House Of The Dragon’ season 2 new episode drops every Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO and Max.
