Goku from the ‘Dragon Ball’ franchise is one of the most popular anime characters of all time, if not the most. Fans love the character for various reasons, some of which are his strength and his determination. Whilst he is loved by most fans and viewers of the series, he is criticized by some for some of his actions.
Some fans believe that whilst Goku is an exemplary fighter, he is not the best father to Gohan and Goten. Fans are curious to find out whether it is actually true, or just some speculation.

Who Is Goku?
Son Goku is the main character of the ‘Dragon Ball’ franchise. He was a kid when the franchise started, and he grew as the series progressed. Goku is not a human but a Saiyan. His parents resided on Planet Vegeta and he was sent to Earth on a spaceship before the planet was destroyed by Frieza.
As a Saiyan, Goku could turn into a great ape. However, he lost this ability when his tail was cut off. Personality-wise, Goku is quite easy going and he is very interested in fighting and he loves to train to get stronger. He is one of Earth’s greatest defenders and he has saved not only the planet but his universe many times as well. Power-wise, Goku is exceptionally powerful. He has trained his entire life and he continues to train to get stronger. Currently, his strongest form is the Mastered Ultra Instinct, which he learned from Whis.
Is He A Bad Father To Gohan And Goten?
Before contemplating the answer to this question, one needs to keep in mind that Goku is not a human. He is a full-fledged Saiyan, which means his emotions are a little different than that of a human. This means his parenting skills and tactics are also a little different. The one thing that some fans always bring up to prove that Goku is a bad father and doesn’t care for his sons, is that he gave Cell a Senzu bean before he fought Gohan.
One thing in Goku’s defense is that he never forced any of his children to do something against their will. He never forced Gohan to fight or train. Even in the Saiyan saga, it was Piccolo who forced Gohan and not Goku. In addition to that, he never forced Goten to train either. Chi-Chi, on the other hand, shut Goten down whenever he tried to train and asked him to become a scholar.
Goku was most definitely not around either of his sons, either by his own choice or due to unfortunate circumstances. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care for his sons. Goku loves his sons very much and tries to protect them to the best of his capabilities. Thus, whilst Goku is nowhere near the best father in the anime world, he is most definitely not bad.
