What Is The Izanami In ‘Naruto’? How It Is Different From Izanagi?

The Sharingan from ‘Naruto’ is one of the most beautiful eyes in anime history. Sharingan however is more than just a set of beautiful eyes, it is a full set of offensive and defensive abilities rolled into one. As soon as one can master their Sharingan, they can become a much better Shinobi.

One power that the Sharingan holds is Izanami. It is one of the most feared and prohibited jutsu of the Uchiha clan. Only a few people even know about the existence of the ability. This makes fans curious as to what exactly this ability is and how it is different from Izanagi.

Izanami is one of the most potent jutsu of the Sharingan and the Uchiha clan. Only a few people are aware of its existence and these are generally the stronger Uchihas. The ability is related to Genjutsu and is very strong. The user casts a genjutsu on the victim by sharing their physical sensations. It replays a certain moment in the victim’s mind over and over again. Any kind of physical or mental damage suffered in those moments gets restarted again but the aftereffects do not vanish. Using this technique comes at a great cost to the user as it permanently blinds them in the eye they are using the doujutsu with.

Even if the victim becomes aware of their state, they cannot break out of it. The illusion will start adapting itself to the victim and will again leave them helpless. The only way to escape this jutsu is by acknowledging the results of the efforts. In simpler terms, the victim needs to accept their fate and then they can break out. This was proven when Kabuto tried to escape Itachi’s Izanami but failed. However, when he accepted his fate, he was able to come out.

What Is The Difference Between Izanagi And Izanami?

The Izanagi and the Izanami are two of the strongest doujtsu in the Uchiha clan’s arsenal. The Izanagi is a failsafe of sorts. The Uchiha clan members have this ability in case they become the victims of an undesirable event. This jutsu can alter events. For instance, if someone is about to die and they activate this jutsu, then they can change the course of events and make it so that they live. Since this jutsu is forbidden by the clan, it should only be used in the direst of circumstances. It has the same cost as that of the Izanami, the user loses the eye with which it was cast. Uchiha Obito cast the Izanagi during his fight with Konan.

The Izanami was created to punish and reprimand the abusers of Izanagi. As mentioned above, one can only escape this jutsu by accepting their fate. This is why Izanami was created. Many Uchiha were using the Izanagi haphazardly and to reprimand them, the jutsu was created. The major difference between the two jutsu would be that Izanagi changes the outcome whilst the Izanami controls it.
