Since the recent release of the ‘Chainsaw Man’ series, the character Pochita has become awfully popular. With its first appearance in the episode, one cannot help but fall in love with the cute-pug-like appearance. However, one must remember not to judge a book by its character. The statement is further proved when we see Pochita’s backstory and his real form.
At the beginning of the series, we find Pochita hurt and in an almost-dying state, from which he recovers by devouring Denji’s blood. He later saves Denji when the latter is in danger by fusing with his body. Pochita acts as the heart of Denji, giving him the power to utilize half of the chainsaw man’s power. Pochita has a small chainsaw hanging in front of the head, indicating a little about his appearance. Let’s further discuss it.

The Real Form Of Pochita
In the first episode what we see of Pochita is not even nearly his real form. His real appearance comprises a chainsaw hanging in the pace of his head, whereas he has a human form but with four arms. His devil form is the most powerful form and is even revered by the devils in existence. He could easily eliminate any devils in his original form without leaving any trace of them.
Pochita was often referred to as the ‘Devil that Devils fear the most’. He was a frightening character who instilled fear amongst all devils. During a fight between the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Devils, he was badly injured and reverted to his current puny form due to having less energy. What we later see in Denji is basically Pochita’s hybrid form, as it allows Denji to use only half its power.

Why Did Pochita Fuse With Denji?
While Pochita hated humans, he was saved by one in his near-death state, making him indebted to the latter. Denji was in front of his father’s grave when he found the wounded Pochita lying there. He knew Devils could easily recover through human blood. He gave some of his blood to Pochita, thus saving him and making him indebted to Denji.
Later he sticks with Denji and saves him when he is near death’s door. Denji used to work for the yakuza to clear his father’s debt. Once he was assigned the task to kill devils as usual, but the yakuza had a sinister plot brewing between them. Before sending Denji out on the mission, the yakuza made a deal with a devil to kill him.
As Denji was of no use to the yakuza anymore, they decided to let him die instead. As he was gravely wounded during the fight, Pochita helped revive him, by fusing with his body. He replaced his heart with him, acting as a strong shield to the latter. Sometime later, Denji successfully kills the very devil who attacked him that day. The bond between Denji and Pochita is very sweet, marking based on loyalty.
