Drew Barrymore Faced Skin Issues From Heavy Makeup
The actress Drew Barrymore took a different turn from her usual genres as she was cast as Edith Beale in ‘Grey Gardens‘. The movie was based on the reclusive lifestyle of a mother and daughter. The film was made up of a documentary of the same name. With lenses, makeup, and dialect lessons, the ‘50 First Dates‘ star challenged herself to take up the role. “I cut myself off from my life,” the actress admitted.
For the daughter’s role played by Drew, she had to go through four to six hours of makeup, she had said in 2009 according to the Irish Examiner. “Just aging the face and hands took hours. Then, taking it off was another hour and a half,” the actress admitted. The ‘Scream’ actress’ face had suffered due to the heavy makeup. “We ended up with skin issues I’d never had before because I developed an allergy to chemicals in isopropyl, the alcohol used in removing cosmetics,” Barrymore confided.

Drew Barrymore Lost Her Mind Filming ‘ Grey Gardens’
It was not an easy task for Drew Barrymore to take over the role in ‘Grey Gardens’. The isolated lifestyle of her character had taken over the star. Acting the role had her go ‘right down into this woman’s sanity’, the actress admits.
The celeb said, “I wouldn’t talk to anyone, I wouldn’t watch TV, I wouldn’t drive a car, I wouldn’t listen to the radio“. “I only read what she read. I had that same avocado green IBM Selectric [typewriter] and that thing is not light,” she added. “And I would just write manifestos. I was like Ted Kaczynski as Edie Beale in Grey Gardens,” the actress recounted on Armchair Expert.
Whatever the case, Drew Barrymore cherished her time as the character. The role was terrifying and challenging for the actress. But she had already fallen in love with the role. However, the star aced a Golden Globe for her performance in this film.
