Martha Stewart Is Hearing From People She Hasn’t Heard For Years After The Sports Illustrated Cover
It is indeed an enviable feat to achieve at 81! But Martha Stewart never knew it any other way. In 1996, for the Spy magazine cover, Stewart went nude, but the 2023 Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover is a special one for her. With this cover, she has become the oldest person to be featured on the swimsuit cover of the magazine. Martha, though emerging as a sex symbol, has denied accepting that title.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart said, “Is it a sex symbol, or is it a symbol of healthy living? We can hardly say sex symbol nowadays, right? Overt sex is kind of frowned upon.”
In the same interview, she was taken by surprise by the amount of love and phone calls she is receiving for a magazine cover. She said, “I’ve been hearing from people I haven’t heard from in years. Can you imagine being congratulated for a cover? I was never congratulated for all my covers on Martha Stewart Living.”

During an interview with The New York Times, Martha Stewart talked about the physical challenges she faced during the shoot. She said, “I had to wear nine different bathing suits. All these people were prodding me and talking about “the girls.” I have never called my breasts “the girls” in my life. I hate stuff like that. The whole time, these people were nudging, “Poke this out, push that in.”
She continued, “I had to put up with that for eight hours. Still, we were shooting in the Dominican Republic, and I had a really good time.” But the challenges and hard work have come to fruition, as people are loving this new avatar of hers.
