Nicola Coughlan Addresses Speculation About Her Waist Being Photoshopped In ‘Bridgerton’
Nicola Coughlan, who plays the pivotal character Penelope Featherington in the popular Netflix series ‘Bridgerton‘, is fighting yet another speculation made about her body. The Irish actress was speaking during an interview with People on Tuesday, when she addressed the claims by some fans about her waist being photoshopped on the show.
“I saw some trolls. They were like: ‘They photoshopped your waist,’ and I was like: ‘No, they did not,’” she said, further explaining that her appearance is a result of the Regency-era-inspired costumes rather than any digital manipulation. “I think if you wear corsetry for long enough, your body really molds to it,” she said.
She asserted that her body has adapted to the corsets used in the show, making it easier to achieve the desired look.
Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton on the show, also opened up about his experience with the less restrictive men’s costumes. Supporting his co-star’s statement, Newton asserted the impact of the costumes on posture and character portrayal.
“I don’t wear a corset, I don’t wear heels, but it really does change your posture, which feels good and it really helps with the character,” Newton told People.
