    While the world is still grieving the death of their beloved Captain Holt, the reason for his death has come forward. Actor Andre Braugher died on December 11, while his death was attributed to a brief illness in the statement wherein his family confirmed his demise.

    Braugher passed away at the age of 61 on Monday. Three days after his death, the ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ star’s rep has now confirmed that Braugher’s death was a result of lung cancer. When he was diagnosed with it or any other details of his illness have not been disclosed yet.

    Andre Braugher Was A Versatile Actor

    Braugher is known for some remarkable contributions, specifically to crime series like ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His decades-long career earned him a total of 11 Emmy nominations.

    Braugher bagged the Emmy award twice during his career span. He secured his first win in 1998 for his role in ‘Homicide and the second for his portrayal of Nick Atwater in ‘Thief. His character of Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine got him four Emmy nominations, showcasing his versatility.

    Andre Braugher’s career began in 1989. His initial works starred him alongside Denzel Washington in ‘Glory’. He also collaborated with Telly Savalas for ‘Kojak’. His credits also include ‘City of Angels’, ‘, ‘Law & Order’, ‘Salem’s Lot’, and the upcoming Netflix series ‘The Residence.

    Braugher actor also received Obie Awards for his stage performances in ‘Henry V’ and ‘The Whipping Man’.

    Tributes For Braugher Poured In From Across The World

    Several fans across the world as well as many celebrities offered condolences and expressed grief over Braugher’s death. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ co-star Terry Crews expressed disbelief, as he honored the eight glorious years spent alongside Braugher.

    Viola Davis, who worked with Braugher in ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, also took to Instagram to pay tributes. She acknowledged his undeniable talent, big heart, and love for family. The producer of Braugher’s last project ‘The Residence,  Shonda Rhimes paid tribute to the actor’s talent and kindness.

    Originally from Chicago, Andre Braugher was a Stanford University graduate and also went to Juilliard. He is survived by his wife Ami Brabson and their children, John Wesley Braugher, Michael Braugher, and Isaiah Braugher.
