Daniel Radcliffe might have a huge fan following of his own, but he is revealing who he is a fan of — or precisely, not a fan of. The ‘Harry Potter‘ actor recently revealed that he has some unexpected television preferences, with a particular choice of steering clear of popular dramas in favor of cartoons and reality TV.
After leading the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise to success, Radcliffe revealed that he finds joy in guest-starring in adult animation series. He specifically mentions ‘The Simpsons‘, a show that he grew up watching. Here’s what the actor revealed further about his watching preferences.
Daniel Radcliffe Opens Up About His Affinity To Animated Shows Over The Serious Ones
Daniel Radcliffe clarified that he keeps his watchlist rather simple with cartoon shows and reality TV, while avoiding the popular shows that may have gained heavy acclaim. “Honestly, I watch cartoons, and I watch reality TV,” Radcliffe said during an interview with CBR.
“I’ve never seen Breaking Bad. I’ve never watched The Sopranos, or The Wire. All the sort-of, heavy hour-long stuff. Just, I can’t. … I think it does probably in part stem from growing up on The Simpsons in the way that I think so many people of our generation’s kids,” he clarified.
Radcliffe has guest-voiced in three episodes of ‘The Simpsons’, and also worked for other animated series such as ‘Robot Chicken’, ‘BoJack Horseman‘, ‘Rick and Morty’, ‘Digman!’, and ‘Mulligan’. He personally is a huge fan of ‘The Simpsons’ and even attributes much of his trivia knowledge and sense of humor to the show.
“I was watching Jeopardy! the other night, and one of the contestants credited a ton of his trivia knowledge to The Simpsons. That’s absolutely true of me as well,” he said during the interview adding that several of the “weird facts, and things from my general knowledge of the world to my sense of humor” were heavily impacted in some way by ‘The Simpsons’.

Daniel Radcliffe Explains Why He Prefers Animated Shows
Laying out the reason for his preference for animated shows over serious ones, Daniel Radcliffe noted that he appreciates animated projects for their ability to depict scenarios that wouldn’t work in live-action.
“It makes sense that our generation of people that have grown up on The Simpsons would want to continue watching more adult-themed cartoons when they got older,” he said.
In a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe made it clear that he wanted people to think of his acting choices as “interesting“. His decision to work in animated shows is perhaps influenced by the same desire.
“When I finished Potter and was trying to figure out what my career was after that, I always said that I wanted to be the kind of actor that keeps his roles interesting enough that when you’ve got something coming out, people go, ‘Oh, he’s in that, he always makes interesting choices,’” he had said during the interview.
Radcliffe also noted that he considers himself fortunate to pick roles based on what excites him. “I’m very fortunate in that I’m mostly in a position now to pick jobs on the basis of what seems fun,” he said. “It’s like, what seems like it’ll be a really fun thing to do?” he said.
