“Weird AI” Yankovic Proposed A ‘Harry Potter’ Parody
“Weird Al” Yankovic has parodied theme songs for popular franchises like ‘Star Wars’ and has also created iconic rap songs like ‘Gangsta’s Paradise.’ He has also created original songs that are pastiches.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 63-year-old revealed something while promoting his biopic ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.’ He said that he had pitched WB to parody the theme song of ‘Harry Potter.’
“Whenever it was, about a decade or two ago, I approached the movie company just to get a general blessing like, ‘Hey, I’d like to do a Harry Potter parody,” he said.
“And I think they said no, or they never responded or whatever,” Yankovic added. “But sometimes when you’re dealing with franchises, and you ask permission, you know, there’s so many people that can say no, and they usually do.”
Yankovic Talks About Daniel Radcliffe Portraying Him On-Screen
Yankovic says that his favorite Harry Potter movie is ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.’ “We like to think that that’s the last movie of the Harry Potter franchise,” he said.
He also talked about wanting Daniel Radcliffe to play him on-screen because he had the “right energy for it. I’m a big fan of Dan’s. He does amazing dramatic acting and amazing comedic acting, and he gets it,” he said.
The singer further said, “I mean, I knew that he’s a huge comedy fan. He’s a huge nerd, just like me, and I knew that he would just really lock into the tone that we were going for in this movie, which is so important.”
