    Director Joseph Kosinski Explains The Absence Of Kelly McGillis And Meg Ryan In “Top Gun: Maverick”

    Maverick is back after a seemingly never-ending wait. Finally, after 30 years of the original Top Gun movie, it looks like there is going to be a sequel. The movie was first released in 1986 featuring Tom Cruise and Pete Mitchell. Not to mention the heated love story between Maverick and his instructor Charlie played by Kelly McGillis which is no doubt the fan favorite.

    As soon as the news of a sequel was announced fans were hoping to see Kelly McGillis and Meg Ryan in the cast. But, unfortunately to the fans’ dismay, they won’t be returning back for the sequel, Top Gun maverick.

    Fans Demand An Explanation For McGillis And Meg Ryan’s Absence

    Fans are already disheartened by the news that they won’t be seeing their favorite couple maverick and Charlie. Director Joseph Kosinski takes it upon himself to explain the reason behind Kelly McGillis’s and meg Ryan’s absence.

    In an interview with insider, Kosinski revealed that he wanted to introduce new characters to the movie. “I didn’t want every storyline to always be looking backward. It was important to introduce some new characters,” said Kosinski.

    McGillis had already addressed the concerns regarding her absence from the movie. She believes That she is age-appropriate for the role but she still didn’t get a call back for the sequel.

    McGillis said, “Oh god no. They did not, nor do I think they would ever.” Ryan did not get any call back for the sequel. But She still has not made any comments regarding her absence from the movie.

    Van Kilmer is the only character returning along with Tom Cruise in the sequel. The story is going to include a new plot line circling Goose’s son Rooster. The movie will hit the big screens on Friday, May 27.
