Elton John Applauds Donald Trump’s ‘Little Rocket Man’ Nickname, But Urges America To Vote For “A Much Calmer, A Much Safer Place”

Elton John is no stranger to the limelight, whether for his chart-topping hits or his candid opinions on world events. Known for his larger-than-life persona, the ‘Rocket Man‘ singer has long used his platform to speak on issues beyond music.

Recently, Elton made headlines again, this time weighing in on former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s infamous nickname for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, ‘Little Rocket Man.’ But while he found humor in Trump’s boldness, the music legend didn’t hold back on his hopes for America’s future.

During an interview at the Toronto Film Festival with Variety, Elton John reflected on Trump’s use of his hit song to label Kim Jong Un. “I laughed, I thought that was brilliant,” Elton said.

I just thought, ‘Good on you, Donald.’ … Donald’s always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many, many times. So, I mean, I’ve always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh,” the singer added.

According to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s 2022 memoir, ‘Never Give an Inch‘, Trump reportedly had to explain the nickname to Kim, as the North Korean leader was unfamiliar with the singer. To top it off, Trump even gifted Kim a signed Elton John CD. Elton responded with his signature humor.

Of course he hasn’t heard of me… I’ve never toured North Korea, and I have no intention of doing so. But, I thought it was a light moment, and it was fun,” he said.

A Call For A “Calmer, Safer” America

Despite finding Donald Trump’s jab humorous, Elton John shifted the conversation to something much more serious. After the premiere of his Disney+ documentary, ‘Elton John: Never Too Late‘, he used his platform to express his concerns about the future of American politics.

Kindness will always win out… that’s what I hope for the American election in November,” Elton said. Although he didn’t endorse a specific candidate, his message was clear. He’s hoping for a leader who prioritizes love and peace.

In a follow-up interview, Elton elaborated on his hopes for the upcoming election, emphasizing the importance of voting for fundamental rights and personal freedoms. “I just want people to vote for things that are just, things that are important to people,” he shared with Variety.

I just hope that people make the right decision to see what the future is going to be. Is it going to be fire and brimstone … or are we going to have a much calmer, a much safer place? People can vote for who they like, but as far as I’m concerned, I love love. And I’m a loving person, and I want that to come back to America. I feel it’s been lost in the last 12 years,” the singer added.
