“I’ve Never Been more Terrified Of A Role”: Bill Skarsgård Talks About His Role As A Vampire In ‘Nosferatu’

You probably know Bill Skarsgård from his character of the dancing clown Pennywise from the infamous horror film ‘It‘. He has been constantly praised for his talents in horror projects. But this time, the actor himself is getting scared of his role in Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu.

The film is a take on the 1920 classic, and Bill plays the role of a vampire in it. Speaking about the same, the actor delved into his role in detail. He also talked about the horror of movie making, the role of monsters in societies in the past and present, and what it takes to embody the role of a vampire. Here’s everything he said.

Bill Skarsgård joined director Robert Eggers to talk about his role and experience while playing it in an interview with Another Magazine. Bill shares that he was terrified of his role. Considering that he has played plenty of horror roles, this is the first time the actor has stated something like this.

Bill shared, “I’ve never been more terrified of a role and probably won’t be again. The whole journey was so intense. Once you start channeling something that’s not you, you feel like a vessel.”

Bill Skarsgård revealed he felt uncomfortable while performing the role of vampire as he couldn’t use himself or his essence in it. “I had a hard time committing to performing it, it felt so strange and uncomfortable,” he stated. He further added that he hadn’t prepared this hard for anything before.

When asked why he is still fascinated by the concept of vampires, director Robert Eggers replied, “I think part of the reason I wanted to work with you so badly was that you bring back these dead, folkloric times and you blow so much life into them – they transport you into that period”.

He added, “Of course, we’ve lost a lot of that magic in our secular, science-driven world. Going back to these ancient tales is a reminder that they’re all in us — the archetypes are all there.”

Bill feels that vampires should be terrifying and we haven’t seen them like this in decades. Through the movie, he tried to bring back the authentic original idea of how it’s represented to real people, who loved and believed this thing was commendable and cool.
