Los Angeles saw a star-studded Oscars event on Sunday with ‘Oppenheimer’ titled Best Picture of the Year and its lead star Cillian Murphy bagging the award for Best Actor. Emma Stone, the talented 35-year-old actress, also added another golden statuette to her collection at the 2024 Academy Awards on Sunday.
The actress has previously won an Oscar for her leading role in ‘La La Land‘ in 2016. This year’s win for her role in ‘Poor Things’ makes Emma Stone the Best Actress recipient for the second time. But Stone’s win was not without a heart-touching acceptance speech that had half of the audience in tears — and it had to do with her best friend Taylor Swift.

Emma Stone Wins Her Second Oscar Award For ‘Poor Things’
Emma Stone received the Oscar award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Poor Things‘. The golden trophy was presented to her by a star-studded lineup of past winners, including Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange.
In her characteristically down-to-earth manner, Stone addressed the audience in a voice that was “a little gone”. As she humorously acknowledged a “broken” dress mishap and blamed Ryan Gosling for it, her acceptance speech soon took an emotional turn.
“The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot. That maybe something like this could happen, and Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it.’ And he was right because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies. It’s all of us together,” Emma Stone said.
With deep gratitude, Stone continued, “I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film.”

Emma Stones Uses Taylor Swift’s Song Name ‘Bigger Than The Whole Sky’ In Her Oscar Speech
The star then took a moment to thank her family, including her mom, brother Spencer, dad, and husband Dave McCary. “I know I have to wrap up, but I really just want to thank my family. My mom, my brother Spencer, my dad, my husband Dave [McCary], I love you so much,” she said.
“And, most importantly, my daughter, who’s gonna be 3 in three days and has turned our lives technicolor,” the star continued, before quoting pal Taylor Swift’s lyric: “I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl.”
The term “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” is Taylor Swift’s song from her Grammy-winning album ‘Midnights’. This added an extra layer of emotions to her speech, given the love and admiration she holds for Taylor Swift as a friend and an artist.
Competing against Stone for the category were some formidable actresses including Annette Bening for ‘Nyad‘, Lily Gladstone for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘, Sandra Hüller for ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, and Carey Mulligan for ‘Maestro’.
Stone eat all of them with her portrayal of Bella Baxter in the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed comedy ‘Poor Things‘, set in Victorian London. The film has previously garnered critical acclaim, earning her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and a BAFTA.
