“F*cking Bleak”: Dakota Johnson Decries Hollywood’s Fear Of Risk-Taking

We finally live in a world where the actors can question the movie makers on their choices of art that makes it to the screens. And Dakota Johnson is full of questions as she opens up about Hollywood‘s risk-averse stance.

Dakota criticizes the industry for being “afraid” to back indie films. Known for her roles in box office hits like ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and the upcoming ‘Madame Web,’ Johnson expressed frustration with the lack of willingness to greenlight smaller-budgeted movies.

The actor turned to producer and it looks like the shift was necessary to make the movies that are ballsy. Dakota Johnson is also a producer under her production banner TeaTime.

The new producer recently opened up to L’Officiel about her dismay at the industry’s hesitance to support unique, forward-thinking projects. She cited her experience with ‘Daddio’, a film that faced significant hurdles before being picked up by Sony Classics.

The 34-year-old Hollywood star expressed her frustrations saying, “People are just so afraid, and I’m like, why? What’s going to happen if you do something brave?.. Everyone who makes decisions is afraid. They want to do the safe thing, and the safe thing is really boring.”

Johnson bluntly stated, “I am discovering that it’s really fucking bleak in this industry. It is majorly disheartening. The people who run streaming platforms don’t trust creative people or artists to know what’s going to work, and that is just going to make us implode. It’s really heartbreaking. It’s just fucking so hard.”

It’s a tricky plot to outline, so I won’t even try, but it’s about a woman handling grief and how she does it in a specific way,” said Dakota.

The actress has tried her hand in the production business before and successfully so. Working on films like ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth and ‘Persuasion’ in which she played the lead Johnson emphasized her interest in creating content that diverges from the norm.
