2024 has been a defining year for Austin Butler, with his highly acclaimed performances in hit movies like ‘Dune: Part Two’, and his upcoming movie ‘The Bikeriders’. While he has been hitting the headlines quite frequently in the past few months, the actor also revealed that he auditioned for the popular series ‘Hunger Games‘ but did not get through.
Opening up about his experience, the actor revealed that during the ‘Hunger Games’ auditions, he wasn’t sure what he did. Here’s what the actor said in his own words about the audition and how he lost the chance to be a ‘Hunger Games‘ star.
He didn’t even Receive A Call Back For his Role In ‘Hunger Games’
Austin Butler’s career is thriving like never before, but it took him a long time to make it big. During a recent interview with BuzzFeed Celeb, Butler revealed that there were several projects that he looked forward to but they didn’t work out for him.
One such project was the popular ‘Hunger Games’ film franchise. Butler revealed that he auditioned for role of Peeta, but ended up getting rejected. “I auditioned for The Hunger Games, and I didn’t get it at all. I don’t even think I got a callback. What’s the character, Peeta?” he said.
Though he did not reveal much about what happened during the audition, Butler admitted that he believes he didn’t receive a call back from the casting panel. Despite his failed attempt to claim the role, he appreciated the actor Josh Hutcherson, who portrayed the role instead of Butler.
Butler is currently promoting his upcoming movie ‘The Bikeriders’, a crime drama movie with Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, and Tom Hardy.

Austin Butler Had A Quick Yet Late Rise In the Hollywood
During the auditions of ‘Hunger Games’, Josh Hutcherson was a far bigger name than Austin Butler. Hutcherson was a child actor who started his career in 2002 at the age of 10. Compared to Hutcherson, Butler’s fame was mostly related to Disney and Nickelodeon TV circles including ‘iCarly’, ‘Hannah Montana’, and ‘Zoey 101’.
Butler’s breakout didn’t come soon. His career took some time to shine and Austin feels his breakthrough movie was playing the role of Baz Luhrmann’s 2002 biopic, ‘Elvis’. Butler received praise for his notorious role and even earned an Oscar nomination. The actor also had an advancement after playing the supporting role in ‘Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood’.
‘Elvis’ changed the path of Butler’s career. Maybe getting rejected from ‘Hunger Games‘ worked well for Austin as he had something big waiting for him. If he portrayed the role of Peeta in ‘Hunger Games‘ his aura would have been developed for more serious roles, and we perhaps wouldn’t have seen his unexplored notorious side.
