Lyon came across the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club, becoming an inspiration for his photo book. Lyon’s pictures provided an authentic look inside the lives of people who made the club and the 1960s counterculture.
However, the plot of ‘The Bikeriders’ is a fictional story. According to Deadline, the film is an original story set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.

Oscar-nominee Austin Butler plays Benny, the renegade member of the motorcycle club Vandals. As the club transforms into a more sinister organization, he experiences conflicting loyalties to his wife, Kathy, and the motorcycle club leader, Johnny. Primed to take over the club after Johnny, Butler’s Benny must make a defining choice.
‘The Bikeriders’ has an ensemble cast of Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, and Norman Reedus. The film premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2023. It has a theatrical release date of December 1, 2023, in the US.
