“I Do Not Want To Waste Too Much Time In The Industry”: Chris Evans Talks About Why He Wants To Do Fewer Projects In Future

Chris Evans became the heartthrob of the nation in no time! The suave personality and impeccable presence on screen helped the star find his niche in the industry. He started with television series and films. Chris got recognition for playing Johnny Storm in ‘The Fantastic Four.’ However, when he joined Marvel as Captain America, Evans’ career got a great boost.

In 2019, after ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Chris Evans stepped down as Steve Rogers, waiting to hand the reins to his successor. It was playing Captain America that induced anxiety in the actor. Due to this, Chris is taking a step back from acting. From Los Angeles, he moved to Massachusetts, his hometown. The ‘Opposite Sex’ actor has decided to devote his time to other things and take up fewer film projects.

Chris Evans is taking a step back from acting after a very busy 2022. In an interview with GQ before the writers’ strike, Chris Evans talked about his decision to be less active in the film industry after dealing with anxiety episodes after riding a Marvel franchise on his back. In the interview, he talked about how he is choosing his projects these days.

Chris Evans said, “Now it’s really about, well: What time of year we are filming? Am I gonna miss autumn? You know, I don’t want to miss autumn. I only have so many of them.” Evans hints at pursuing other interests. He said, “I could make furniture for nobody and be happy.”

Chris Evans feels that he is occupying too much space in the industry and admits that reading a script is now not on his priority list. He continued, “I don’t want to—I’ve got to frame this the right way. I was going to say, I don’t want to waste too much time in this industry, but that doesn’t really feel.… That doesn’t sound correct. I don’t want to occupy too much space in an industry that I’ve already poured 20 years into.”

The actor added, “Sometimes I wonder if I’m lacking some sort of—like, I think I’m a very driven person. I have a lot of energy. I wake up early, I get a lot done in a day, but it’s not always focused on acting. Sometimes reading a script is the last thing I want to do.”

When the euphoria around Chris Evans subsided after ‘The Fantastic Four’, Captain America‘s standalone film franchise gave him wider recognition. However, the fame affected the actor in a very negative way. It exacerbated his anxiety.

About taking up the job, the actor said, “I was really apprehensive about taking the role initially. I remember in my late 20s having a real shift in how I felt on set, how I felt promoting films, a little more anxiety, a little more uncertainty. You always end up questioning. Is this what I should be doing?”

During the GQ interview, Chris Evans was asked if he would return to Marvel. He said, “I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing.”
