“It Was The Most Unhelpful”: Thandie Newton Has Traumatic Memories Of Filming ‘Mission: Impossible’ With Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise tops all the charts in the matters of charisma and liability. He’s also known for his intense focus and perfectionist ways. Generally speaking, these are great qualities to have. But while filming the second ‘Mission: Impossible’ film with Tom Cruise, Thandie Newton found herself hating his co-star.

Thandie Newton got candid in a magazine piece about the uncomfortable working experience with Tom Cruise. Any actor would gladly work with him, but that wasn’t the British actress’ experience. She recalled him being obnoxious, taking too much control on the set. By her account, the 61-year-old actor made life difficult for her with his frustrations.

Thandie Newton’s Experience With Tom Cruise

Thandie Newton was traumatized by her ‘Mission: Impossible’ co-star.

When Vulture asked her about her experience working with Tom Cruise, little did they know they were opening a can of worms. Thandie Newton gave an honest account of working with Tom Cruise, which was unpleasant. Ears were raised since the ‘Jerry Maguire’ actor has maintained a nice guy image overall.

Thandie Newton called Tom Cruise “a very dominant individual” and someone who “tries super hard to be a nice person”. She told the outlet about the filming of a scene that was the final straw for her. She said, “He gets so frustrated with having to try and explain that he goes, ‘Let me just — let’s just go do it. Let’s just rehearse on-camera,”

The ‘Westworld’ actress added, “So we rehearsed and they recorded it, and then he goes, ‘I’ll be you. You be me.’ So we filmed the entire scene with me being him — because, believe me, I knew the lines by then — and him playing me. And it was the most unhelpful.”

Actors Who Dislike The ‘Mission: Impossible’ Star

Mickey Rourke doesn’t believe the ‘Top Gun’ actor has challenged himself as an artist.

There have been actors in the past who haven’t been too impressed by Tom Cruise. For instance, Mickey Rourke said he disliked the 61-year-old actor in 2020. In an interview with Piers Morgan, he called out the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor for not doing enough to be considered one of the great actors.

In 2013, Mark Wahlberg got upset with Tom Cruise when the ‘Jerry Maguire’ actor compared filming a movie to fighting in Afghanistan. Wahlberg, who played a Navy SEAL, didn’t take kindly to this remark. However, he later explained that he didn’t know the ‘Top Gun’ actor made the comparison. But he was clear that he’ll always respect the military more than movie stars.
