Jimmy Kimmel was one of the main highlights of the Oscars ceremony this year as the host kept audiences hooked with his monologue as well as the rest of the hosting. Already known for his cheeky humor, Jimmy Kimmel made many jokes at the expense of some high-profile celebrities present in the audience.
One of his targets was Robert Downey Jr. — who also won his first Oscar this year for his role in ‘Oppenheimer‘. But the joke seemingly did not land so well as it left Robert Downey Jr. visibly uncomfortable. Here’s what happened.
Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Robert Downey Jr. For His Drug Abuse At The Oscars
The 56-year-old talk show host Jimmy Kimmel took a playful jab at Robert Downey Jr.’s history with substance abuse during his opening monologue at the Oscars this year. With a star-packed audience at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Kimmel made RDJ visibly uncomfortable with his distasteful joke.
As Kimmel congratulated Cillian Murphy’s co-star in the critically acclaimed ‘Oppenheimer’, he said, “Congratulations to (Cillian Murphy’s) co-star Robert Downey Jr. This is the highest point of Robert Downey Jr’s career.” After a pause, Kimmel added, “Well, one of the highest points,” making a subtle gesture toward his nose.
The camera then cut to Downey Jr., who gestured that the joke was “on the nose” before signaling for Kimmel to wrap it up. However, Kimmel did not stop at that as he continued with another joke. “Is that too on the nose or was that a drug motion you made?”
The camera captured Downey Jr.’s co-star Emily Blunt reaching across to tap his shoulder as he appeared uneasy.

Later in the Oscars ceremony, Robert Downey Jr. won the Best Supporting Actor prize. In his rather humorous acceptance speech, he thanked his wife Susan Downey for “loving him back to life.”
The actor, who has openly discussed his journey to recovery, also took the opportunity to express gratitude for the support that has played a crucial role in his personal and professional resurgence.
