Celebrity auditions obviously don’t always go as planned. But the best part is that the Jonas Brothers never shy away from owning up to and revealing their embarrassing moments.
Recently, Joe Jonas opened up about one of his worst audition experiences for ‘The Morning Show’. And it honestly couldn’t be more wholesome.
Joe Jonas Reveals The Awkward Audition For ‘The Morning Show’ That Completely Threw Him Off

While chatting on their podcast, ‘Hey Jonas!‘, Joe Jonas recalled just how badly his audition went for ‘The Morning Show‘. The hit series is currently running on Apple TV and stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
The uncomfortable experience started the moment Joe Jonas arrived early for the audition. “I show up early, and they’re like, ‘Oh.’ And they did this thing, which was very kind; they were like, ‘Oh, we have a private room for you,’” Joe Jonas recalled.

That’s when he realized he had actually been placed in a room where he could easily hear the other actors auditioning for the same role. “This is the saddest room you can imagine,” he added. “I could hear clear as day all the guys auditioning, and these guys were crushing it.”
When it was finally Joe Jonas’s turn, things completely fell apart. “And I go in and I just crash and burn. It was literally like, I don’t even know what I’m auditioning for… It was just gone for me. And it was such a bad audition,” he revealed.
Joe was quickly consoled by Nick Jonas. “Bad auditions happen,” Nick told his older brother before asking, “Would you say that’s your worst audition?”. To this, he recalled his audition for the hit musical ‘Wicked.’ “I think also ‘Wicked’ was a bit of a strange one,” Joe responded, “because there were, like, incredible theater vocalists I could hear clear as day.”
Previously, both Nick and Joe Jonas revealed that they auditioned for the role of Fiyero in ‘Wicked’, though the role ultimately went to actor Jonathan Bailey. “Joe and I both went out, and we didn’t get it. But that’s the life of an actor,” Nick told Variety.
The Terrible Audition Tape Jonas Brothers Had To Create For ‘Camp Rock’

One audition tape that forever remains a mystery for Jonas Brothers fans is the unforgettable self-tape that landed Joe his role in ‘Camp Rock’. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2025, the brothers looked back on the hilariously bad audition tape they had to create.

Nick Jonas explained that they were constantly touring at the time, performing wherever they could, as their song ‘Year 3000’ was gaining momentum. It was during this period that Joe received a call to audition for Disney. Since they were on the road with minimal resources, they simply improvised.
“We used this thing called a Flip Vid—my millennial folks out there, you might know what it is,” Nick said. “It was like the first-gen of a camera that had a USB connected, and you could upload videos. We did that, but it looked terrible.”
Kevin Jonas remembered how the hotel lighting didn’t help at all. “I literally held a lamp like this, pointed at him like a spotlight,” he says with a laugh. “It was awful.” Later, when they sent the tape to Disney, they realized how bad it actually was.
“The Disney execs called our dad, who was one of our managers at the time, and were like, ‘Is this a joke? This is the worst-looking video we’ve ever seen,’” Nick recalled. “Not his audition, but the quality of the video. So we got a better tape, and he got the job.”
Looking back on the audition tape, Kevin joked, “I wish we could find this footage,” to which Joe responded, “Disney has it somewhere.” We can only hope to get our hands on these iconic tapes someday
