Maurice White was born on December 19, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee. He started his career as a jazz drummer. The artist also played various other percussion instruments. White’s hard work and talent made him and his band famous around the country soon. Maurice started his music journey in the late 1960s with the band Salty Peppers in Chicago.

Then he moved to Los Angeles and started anew by forming the band ‘Earth, Wind, and Fire’. “That was the whole objective, to try to inspire young people to believe in themselves and to follow through on their ideas,” the artist said. “We’ve touched so many people with these songs,” White said about their songs in an interview with the Associated Press in 2000.

‘That’s The Way of The World‘ and ‘Serpentine Fire‘ are two albums that became the band’s smash hits. Along with his brothers Fred and Verdine, others involved with the band included Philip Bailey, Larry Dunn, and Al McKay. The band had performed at many places from the Super Ball to the White House. Their performances were magic, with skillful dance moves, vibrant dresses, along with colorful lighting, and a stage setting. Maurice was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

Maurice White was born to Edna Parker, who then married Verdine Adams. Through his mother’s marriage to Adams, Maurice had two step-siblings, Fred White and Verdine White. They later became part of ‘Earth, Wind, and Fire’. The celebrated music artist married Marilyn White. He has three children including a daughter Hemaya and two sons Eden and Kahbran. 

It was in 1995 that Reese stopped touring with the band due to the weariness that caused his health problems to aggravate. During the band’s Hall of Fame induction, the artist revealed that he had started to show the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease in the 1980s. The artist passed away in his sleep in 2016 at his Los Angeles home at the age of 74.
