Met Gala 2023: Men Steal The Show At This Year’s Star-Studded Event

The Met Gala on Monday was a successful affair at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York! The star-studded event had many hits and misses, but it is unanimous that everyone tried to come closer to their interpretation of the Karl Lagerfeld theme. It compensated for the disaster that 2022 was! However, surprisingly, the men in 2023 upped their fashion game, putting their best foot forward.

During the Met Gala 2023, men were tasteful. It seems like men of all sexual orientations and genders have understood the impact that fashion has on society at large. This year, the trend was strong, with some men paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld, like Ke Huy Quan’s cute interpretation. While some went risque with their looks, like Bad Bunny’s backless white tweed jacket. But some men did not get the memo or accidentally arrived at the wrong location [Lil Nas X, the Met does not hold a Schiaparelli show!]. Nevertheless, men slayed.

The theme of the 2023 Met Gala was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’ Some exquisite women arrived on the carpet, like Penelope Cruz, donning an ethereal mint green Chanel dress, and Kim Kardashian, draped in pearls in a Schiaparelli couture. But men stood out this time at the annual fashion fundraiser.

Fashion critics have been disappointed with the men at the Met Gala. Karl Lagerfeld, in an interview with The New York Times, was asked why he has female staffers. To this, he answered, “I’m not crazy to discuss fashion with men. I couldn’t care less about their opinion.” They always arrive in a three-piece suit, as if it were some formal meeting. Even with the varied themes introduced over the years, men did not experiment. There were a handful of exceptions that never disappointed. Like during 2019’s ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme, celebrities like Jared Leto, Billy Porter, and Harry Styles came out in androgynous fits, giving justice to this impeccable theme.

But the tables turned this year, and Karl Lagerfeld would have been happier about it. Men came out in large numbers, donning some experimental clothes. Who would have thought that our beloved ‘Batman’ actor could slay in a draped skirt coat until he did? Robert Pattinson wore a Dior ensemble, accessorizing it with a gold brooch and jeweled shoes.

Ben Platt was one of the best-dressed celebrities, wearing a Weiderhoeft tweed jacket and pants with a waist belt. There were some risque looks, like Bad Bunny wearing a Jacquemus backless suit with a rosette cape, and the ‘internet daddy,’ Pedro Pascal, wearing a Valentino red coat and shirt with a black tie and shorts. But there was some careless celebrity who forgot the line between experimentation and disgust.

Lil Nas X, the queer icon, did not serve at all with his Dior thong and jewel-encrusted body. After the humongous disaster that ‘Venom’ was, Jared Leto looked like he accidentally arrived at the Met Gala in a catsuit instead of going to a five-year-old girl’s birthday party.
