Months after the release of the film ‘Priscilla’, based on the life of Singer Elvis Presley‘s wife, the woman herself opened up about the early days of her life with her husband. Priscilla and Elvis’s relationship was particularly controversial because of the huge age gap between them.
When the two met in 1959, Priscilla was just 14, while Elvis was 24. In a recent interview with Fox 32, Priscilla Presley revealed some details about the early years of their relationship and the course it took after they got married.

“I Was The Listener In The Relationship,” Says Elvis Presley’s Wife
Talking about Elvis’s life when she met him, Priscilla said he was “very lonely“, and she came off as a great listener for him in his bad days. Referring to herself as “the listener” in the relationship, Priscilla said the singer would “pour his heart out” to her. “He was very, very lonely,” she said.
Priscilla also clarified that when they met first, she was quite young and the dynamic between them was not sexual. “My relationship with Elvis, you know, people go, ‘Oh my god, how could this happen?’ It was not a sexual relationship, being 14 years old,” the 78-year-old wife of Elvis Presley said.
In an earlier interview with Rolling Stone, Priscilla had opened up more about the reasons why the couple started dating each other. “[He liked me] because I was more of a listener. Elvis would pour his heart out to me every way … and I was the person who really, really sat there to listen and to comfort him. That was really our connection,” she had stated during the September interview.
“People think, ‘Oh, it was sex…Not at all. I never had sex with him [at the time],” she added.
The couple got married in May 1967 when Priscilla was 21, and Elvis was 32. A year later, they were blessed with a daughter, Lisa Marie.

Presley Family’s Reaction To The Movie ‘Priscilla’
After Sofia Coppola’s film ‘Priscilla‘ was released in October, the discussion around the age gap between the two flared up again. Reports suggested that the Presley family was not quite happy with the film’s portrayal of Elvis.
His daughter Lisa Marie raised concerns about the same in private emails to Coppola, that got leaked. Lisa described the script as “shockingly vengeful and contemptuous“, asking the director to reconsider the depiction of her father.
“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative,” Lisa Marie wrote. “As his daughter, I don’t read this and see any of my father in this character. I don’t read this and see my mother’s perspective of my father. I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why?” she said.
Despite the initial concerns, Priscilla said she was satisfied with the film in her recent interview. She even appreciated Coppola for her direction as well as Cailee Spaeny for her portrayal of Priscilla.
Priscilla Presley said that Spaeny accurately captured her essence after the meetings she had with the actress during the film’s production.
“You know, this is your life, but I was happy with it. I thought [Coppola] did a great job, and especially [Cailee Spaeny who played Priscilla] was unbelievable. She honestly got me down to a T. I did have a couple of meetings with her and she said, ‘Is there anything that you can tell me that I can go by?’ and I said, ‘Yes, just be sensitive, please,’” Priscilla said.
