Sharon Stone Reveals Why She Turned Down Marriage To Her 38-Year-Old Boyfriend At 19

Sharon Stone has looked back on a relationship that could have changed the course of her life forever. The actress revealed that when she was 19, she dated a 38-year-old designer who wanted to marry her.

Instead of settling down in Europe, Stone chose to chase her acting dreams in America because she believed, even from a young age, that fame and acting were her destiny. Decades later, the two have remained close friends, making the story even more surprising.

Sharon Stone Turned Down Marriage To Follow Her Dream

While reflecting on her early modeling career in Europe, Sharon Stone shared details about the relationship that almost led to marriage. She recalled, “When I was 19, I had a 38-year-old boyfriend who was a designer, a silk designer, and I knew all of the designers because of him. We traveled all over the world together. We dated on and off for 30 years. We’re still best friends.”

Although the relationship lasted for years on and off, Stone said she could never picture her future in Europe. She explained that her boyfriend wanted to marry her, but she had already made up her mind about the life she wanted.

“He would have married me, but I did not want to live in Europe,” Stone explained. Stone said she always knew acting was her calling.

“I knew I was going to be an actress. Knew what my destiny was. I really knew when I was little that this is what was going to happen to me. It wasn’t just all about the acting. I knew that I was going to be super famous, and that I had many things I was meant to do. I just knew it.”

Sharon Stone Never Let Go Of The Career She Wanted

Looking back, Stone’s decision proved to be the turning point that shaped her career. Instead of staying in Europe, she built a successful career in Hollywood and continues to work in film and television. Over the past year, she has appeared in ‘Euphoria,’ the action comedy ‘Nobody 2‘ and the indie dramedy ‘In Memoriam.’

Even after decades in the industry, Stone says she still has big ambitions. She hopes to make her Broadway debut one day and revealed that she once tried to secure the rights to produce a stage version of “All About Eve.” 

Stone also admitted she has been offered Broadway roles before, but none felt right. Rather than waiting for the perfect script, she has started dreaming up her own ideas, including a punk-era version of “Mame.” 

Stone’s latest reflections make it clear that the same confidence that led her to turn down marriage decades ago still drives the bold choices she makes today.
