Taylor Swift‘s famous “girl squad” was once one of the biggest celebrity friend groups in pop culture. From supermodels to Hollywood stars, many of the biggest names seemed to be part of her close circle.
However, over the past decade, several of those friendships have quietly faded, while others ended amid public controversies, leaving fans wondering what really happened behind the scenes.
How Taylor Swift’s Girl Squad Started To Fall Apart Slowly
Taylor Swift introduced her star-studded “girl squad” to the world in 2015 through her ‘Bad Blood‘ music video. The singer got together with celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Cindy Crawford, and Karlie Kloss to play her glamorous team of “assassins.” Around the same time, Swift’s personal life reflected that same image as she regularly stepped out with an ever-growing circle of A-list friends who supported her through career milestones and public breakups.

Several women who once seemed inseparable from Swift have since drifted away. Zendaya, who once described Swift as “a genius” and “really a sweetheart,” has not been publicly seen with the singer for more than a decade. Victoria’s Secret model Martha Hunt also quietly disappeared from Swift’s inner circle after years of appearing at her famous Fourth of July parties and public events.
The biggest change, however, involved Karlie Kloss. Their friendship began in 2012 after Swift told Vogue, “I love Karlie Kloss. I want to bake cookies with her.” After finally meeting through Lily Aldridge, Swift later recalled their instant connection, saying, “We were just like, ‘You. My friend. Now.’” Their friendship soon became one of the defining relationships of Swift’s famous squad.
What Really Happened Between Taylor Swift And Karlie Kloss
Swift and Kloss spent years traveling together, appearing on stage, posting affectionate social media tributes, and publicly celebrating their friendship. Kloss even wrote “Karlie heart Taylor” in the sand for an Instagram post before later captioning another photo, “Cause we never go out of style…“

By 2016, though, the friendship had noticeably cooled. Some believed politics played a role after Kloss became involved with Josh Kushner, whose brother Jared Kushner is married to Ivanka Trump. Others pointed to Kloss’s friendship with Scooter Braun, who later purchased the masters of Swift’s first six albums, triggering one of the singer’s biggest professional battles. Swift eventually regained ownership of those recordings in 2025.
The distance only became more obvious in the years that followed. Swift skipped both of Kloss’s wedding celebrations, while Kloss attended the Eras Tour in 2023 from the regular seating rather than the VIP section. Although recent reports suggest the former friends have reconciled enough for Kloss to attend Swift’s wedding festivities, their relationship has never returned to the highly public friendship that once defined the singer’s inner circle.
Keleigh Sperry And Blake Lively Joined The List Of Former Besties
Another friendship that reportedly fell apart involved Keleigh Sperry, wife of actor Miles Teller. Keleigh and Miles celebrated Swift’s 34th birthday with a small group of close friends in December 2023, where Keleigh gifted the singer a large opal ring.
However, their friendship reportedly cooled during 2024. According to reports, Keleigh felt she was “always playing second, third or even fourth fiddle to her other friends.” Another source claimed the friendship effectively ended after Swift allegedly failed to contact Keleigh when the Tellers lost their home in the Pacific Palisades fires, saying, “Keleigh just let the friendship go. That was the final nail in the coffin of the friendship.”
Blake Lively also went from one of Swift’s closest companions to someone reportedly no longer in her inner circle. Their friendship grew so close that Swift became godmother to Lively’s daughters. However, Swift reportedly distanced herself after becoming entangled in Lively’s legal dispute with Justin Baldoni.
While friendships with Kloss, Keleigh Sperry, Blake Lively, Zendaya, and others have faded over the years, a few members of Swift’s original squad remain close. Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, and the Haim sisters continue to appear by her side.
