“There Are Not Just Enough World Leaders”: Dua Lipa Urges For An Immediate Ceasefire Amidst Israel-Hamas War

The war between Palestine and Israel is not de-escalating anytime soon. Gaza has been most affected due to the unstable leadership, constant war threats, and expansion by Israel. Recently, on October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, and since then, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has been openly firing in Gaza, leading to an exponential loss of life near the strip.

Amidst Hamas and Israel’s war, celebrities have taken sides, and Dua Lipa is one of the many supporting the Palestinian cause. She was born to parents who fled their home country, Albania, due to war. The songstress has been vocal about the current humanitarian issue, and she has also signed a ceasefire request in Palestine. During a recent interview, she urged for an immediate resolution of the war while extending her support to the affected Palestinian civilians.

The Israel-Palestine war issue has reached the International Court of Justice as South Africa filed a case against Israel for committing genocide in Gaza. Amidst the humanitarian crisis, artists like Dua Lipa are using their platform to urge for a ceasefire to save dozens of lives affected by the war.

Dua Lipa, though she lived in London, has her roots in Kosovo, Albania. Her hometown is also torn apart due to the war between Serbs and ethnic Albanians. In 2020, she extended her support to Albanians with a tweet. Now, the ‘Levitating’ singer is advocating for the Palestinian cause.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Dua Lipa made a call for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza. She said, “I feel so bad for every Israeli life lost and what happened on October 7.” Lipa added, “At the moment, what we have to look at is how many lives have been lost in Gaza, and the innocent civilians, and the lives that are just being lost.”

Dua Lipa continued, “There are just not enough world leaders that are taking a stand and speaking up about the humanitarian crisis that’s happening, the humanitarian cease-fire that has to happen.”

She continued, “Grief for the lives lost in the horrifying attacks in Israel. Grief as I witness the unprecedented suffering in Gaza, where 2.2 million souls, half of them children, endure unimaginable hardships.”

In her post, Dua Lipa urged for a ceasefire and asked governments “to halt the unfolding crisis. Our hope lies in finding the empathy to recognize this dire humanitarian situation.” She concluded, writing, “Sending love to Palestinian and Jewish communities worldwide, who bear this burden more heavily than most.”
