“That Is Sexy Too”: ‘Stranger Things’ Star Brett Gelman Defends Noah Schnapp Amidst Palestine Controversy

The Israel-Hamas war is getting more complicated with each passing day, and there is no sign of a ceasefire in the distant horizon. Israel is now being dragged to the International Court of Justice by South Africa for committing genocide. Hollywood celebrities have clarified their stances on the issue and taken sides. However, the ‘Stranger Things’ actor Noah Schnapp has received vitriol for his support for Israel.

Noah Schnapp will be seen in the final season of Netflix’s sci-fi drama ‘Stranger Things’. The actor has been facing criticism on the internet for his pro-Israeli stance while condemning Hamas for its acts. There was a boycott call after he uploaded pictures with his friends, flaunting ‘Zionism is sexy’ stickers. Now, the actor has apologized for his statement and behavior while explaining his statement. But his co-star, Brett Gelman, sees nothing wrong with what he said and did.

Recently, Noah Schnapp released a TikTok video in which he explained his thoughts behind the statement and act that he perpetrated to show support for Israel. In the video, he says that his thoughts and beliefs have been misconstrued as what his true beliefs are.

Noah Schnapp admitted talking to people from a Palestinian background and concluded that both sides have common goals—the release of innocent hostages and the end to the loss of life in Palestine.

Now, his ‘Stranger Things’ co-star Brett Gelman, who plays Murray Bauman, has defended Noah Schnapp for his earlier statements. During an interview with TMZ, the reporter asked him about his thoughts about Noah’s apology and his walking back from what he said.

Brett Gelman said, “I haven’t read the apology so I don’t know if he’s walking back or not I am not aware of what apology he’s made. I saw nothing wrong with the original thing he said.”

Brett continued, “I think you know he held up a sticker, saying, ‘Zionism is sexy’, and he said Hamas is ISIS, Hamas is a terrorist organization, and Zionism is the belief that Israel should exist and that is sexy to me too.”

When Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, Noah Schnapp released a statement via Instagram, writing, “Afraid for my brothers and sisters in Israel, who have been senselessly attacked by Hamas. I am truly heartbroken to see the brutal murders of innocent children, women and soldiers fighting to defend themselves.”

Noah continued, “I, like others, want peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. Let’s stop the rhetoric and choosing sides. Instead we must recognize that we are all on the side of the fight against terrorism. Choose humanity over violence.”

However, the ‘Stranger Things’ actor has been receiving flak for many things, including liking a video that made fun of Palestinian victims in Gaza. In another video, for which Brett Gelman defended him, he was flaunting ‘Zionism is sexy’ stickers.

Pro-Palestinians believe that Israel wants to unjustly and aggressively claim the Palestinian land in Gaza, while the Israelis believe it is their land. Schnapp’s controversies come on the heels of the production and release of the final season of ‘Stranger Things’.
