While there are many films that fans are looking forward to for release in 2024, ‘Road House‘ is an exceptional one. It is gearing up for a comeback on Amazon Prime Video in March and the buzz around it is reaching a fever pitch.
While the original 1989 cult classic starred Patrick Swayze, the reboot will star Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. But that was not the filmmakers’ first choice. Many raised eyebrows initially when the production announced that UFC fighter Ronda Rousey would be the cast as the gender-swapped protagonist.

Who Was The First Choice For Lead In ‘Road House’ Reboot?
While the old movie still has a huge fan following, the remake set for release on March 21, is also causing quite a stir. What has kept fans hooked to the movie further are the changes that the plans around this movie went through over the years.
Fans gave mixed reactions to the news of UFC fighter Ronda Rousey being the female lead of the movie. While some were intrigued by the prospect of Rousey’s kickass action scenes, some others doubted if she would be able to do justice to the original film. Rousey is known for her success in the UFC and roles in films like ‘The Expendables 3’ and ‘Furious 7’.
She transitioned from the UFC to films smoothly and performed well in some action movies like ‘Mile 22’ alongside Mark Wahlberg. Though Rousey seemed ready for the challenge, the project faced many downs and she quietly exited the reboot in 2016.
