Fans have been speculating for years about how Gal Gadot might be able to make a comeback as the titular character of Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s new DCU. Three years on from her last major role as Diana Prince, Gadot has made it clear what it will take to bring her back, and they make a comeback look increasingly unlikely.
Gal Gadot Officially Passes the Wonder Woman Torch
In an interview, Gadot spoke about her plans. She revealed that she has not had any specific conversations with Gunn or DC Studios about returning as Wonder Woman, or even joining the DCU as another character.

Gadot said the last time she had serious talks was when the studio came to her with the idea for ‘Wonder Woman 3’. She has not heard anything since then, however. Her recent remarks seem to be more of a goodbye than a temporary leave. “This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character,” she shared.
Gadot’s most emotional moment was likely when she discussed the person who will eventually take on the role. Instead of teasing her for her possible return, she was thankful to have been given the chance to play Diana and wished the next actress good luck. It’s a sentiment that somehow seems fitting.
A New Wonder Woman Might Be Coming
The DCU is already working on its own Wonder Woman project, with Ana Nogueira on the script. This is a clear sign that Gunn’s universe is here to bring a new version of Diana to life, rather than continuing Gadot’s story. The Adria Arjona rumor has also only grown stronger in recent months.

Arjona has been cast in James Gunn’s ‘Man of Tomorrow’ in a mystery role sparking Wonder Woman speculation. However, DC Studios has yet to reveal who she is playing. It had also been rumored that Gadot would be reprising her role as a DC character after Jason Momoa switched from Aquaman to Lobo.
Names like Big Barda, Talia al Ghul, and Poison Ivy have been suggested by fans. But for now, Gadot seems to have a plan to pass the boots on to someone else. After almost 10 years as Wonder Woman, it’s time she got the freedom to move on, anyway.
